Virginia Anderson

Virginia Anderson passed away at age 100 on June 9, 2024, surrounded by family at her home in Petaluma. Daughter of Frank and Flossie Smith, she was born October 8, 1923, in Madrid, Nebraska.

She was a devoted and beloved wife of the late Walter Anderson, First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Her first husband was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, James Russell, and the father of their two daughters, Rene Butterfield and Michelle (Shelly) Moller. She was survived by four grandchildren: Nickolis (Nick) Downs, Jennifer Crosson (Jason), Ashley Loza (John), and John Moller (Kristen) and seven great-grandchildren – Ellie, Andrew, Jake, Tyler, Amira, Olivia, and Brody.

Virginia married Walt Anderson in 1995 and spent many happy years traveling and dancing at the Finley Reception Center in Santa Rosa. They also belonged to the Cotillion in Petaluma. Virginia was a volunteer at the Sonoma Marin Fair for many years and served on the advisory board of the Senior Center for two years. Virginia loved to paint, play the organ, read, and go for long walks with her dog Joey.

Virginia was full of life and always positive and optimistic. She lived in the moment and truly appreciated the simple things in life. She enjoyed sitting in the backyard drinking a glass of wine and being with family. We will miss her very much.

The Church ceremony is at 10:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma, 939 B St, Petaluma, CA.

The burial is at 11:45 a.m. at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, 430 Magnolia Ave, Petaluma.

A reception will follow at 355 Christensen Lane, Petaluma at 12:30 p.m.
