Wanda Lee Wirtz

October 12, 1939 — April 14, 2021

Wanda Lee (Jameson) Wirtz passed away April 14, 2021 in Petaluma at the age of 81 years.  Devoted wife of the late James "Jim" Wirtz, to whom she was married for 27 years. Beloved mother of Mary Anne Hughes Whelan.  Adored grandmother of Ryan Whelan.  Cherished stepmother of Herman Wirtz, Jeffery Wirtz, and Jamie Houck.  Loving sister of Nancy Hogan and the late Patsy Oliver, Bob Jameson, Judy MacDonald, and Jerry Jameson.  Adored aunt of Leslie (Gentry) Lindbo (John).  Great-aunt of Hannah Gentry and Abi Gentry.  Great-great-aunt of Aleah Gentry Sauer.  Survived by numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Wanda was previously married to Donald (Babe) Field, and Wanda maintained close relationships with many family members from her previous marriage.

Wanda was born in Bakersfield, CA October 12, 1939 to Ted Jameson and Eva Lydia Lee (Crouch) Jameson. She was raised and went to school in Wasco, CA.  At the age of 17, she moved to Novato for a several years before moving to Missouri for four years. Upon her return, she settled in Rohnert Park and later Petaluma. Wanda became a certified nurse’s assistant and worked at Apple Valley Convalescent in Sebastopol as well as an in-home caregiver.  Wanda and Jim were devoted Christians and enjoyed attending church together. Together, they shared the love of sports, and Wanda was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. In her spare time, Wanda enjoyed reading the Bible, watching true-crime TV shows, taking care of her family and volunteering for the Salvation Army in Petaluma. She was also an animal lover and rescued many dogs in need of a home.

Wanda had the kind of warmth and genuine unconditional love that attracted many people to her for help, comfort and advice. Her door was always open to welcome anyone who popped in, and she was generous with her time and love for friends and family. Her humor was sometimes silly and sometimes shockingly off-color, but always good-hearted. She would fill a room with laughter and surround people with her love. She cherished the love of family and friends, but above all, she loved her late husband Jim. In remembering him, she said she married her best friend. After he passed away, she wrote to him: “Jim, in our life we shared great memories, we shared the love of family and friends, and we always had each other to hold on to. You had me, I had you.” They are together now, in Heaven. Wanda was wonderful woman and will be deeply missed.

At Wanda’s request, a private committal will be held.
