Elynor Hansen Weeks - Died peacefully on April 26, 2008 in Santa Rosa with her daughter Karen at her side. She was born February 2, 1926 in Petaluma California, the daughter of Arthur Hansen and Theresa Barenchi Hansen. She graduated from Petaluma High School in 1943 and SRJC in 1945 where she was valedictorian. In 1948 she met the love of her life, Robert Weeks. They were married in 1949 and made their home in Sonoma, Petaluma, Watsonville, Salinas and San Jose. In 1960, Bob was diagnosed with cancer and Elynor nursed him until his death in 1964 as well as raising their two girls, Susan and Karen. After Bobâ??s death, Elynor and her daughters to returned to her hometown of Petaluma. She enrolled at Sonoma State where she earned a degree in History and a teaching credential. She was in the first graduating class of the campus on East Cotati Ave. She taught history and geography for 18 years at Rohnert Park Junior High. During this time she developed her love of travel and traveled every summer to Europe, especially enjoying her trips with her daughter Karen. She moved to Santa Rosa in 1978. Upon her retirement she continued to travel visiting many European countries and making friends along the way. She was active in League of Women Voters, AAUW, and World Affairs Council of Sonoma County.
A Mass in celebration of her life will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church, Santa Rosa on June 6, 2008 at 2pm. Contributions may be made to Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County or a charity of your choice.
Elynor was a devoted and loving mother. She was a lady of grace and strength. She always enjoyed discussing books, movies and politics. She is survived by her loving daughter, Karen Weeks of Santa Rosa, daughter Susan Konantz (Luke) of Grand Junction Colorado, granddaughters Lily and Ramana Konantz, also of Grand Junction, and dear friends Jerene and Ray Rogers of Petaluma.
