It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene (Gene) Peter Camozzi, Sr., a native of Petaluma and a pioneer in the Sonoma County Dairy industry.
Gene passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 93 on February 28, 2024. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years Lydia Camozzi, his children Linda (Mike) Kaufman, Annette (Jim) Piazza, Janice (Tim) Kehoe, Eugene (Chris) Camozzi Jr., Anthony (Deanna) Camozzi, and Julie (Ed) Heikell, as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was a devoted brother to Robert (Gloria) Camozzi and brother-in-law to Doris (Roger) Difate. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Edith (D’Ambrogi) Camozzi, brothers Andy (Dorline) Camozzi and Richard (Lorraine) Camozzi, and brothers-in-law Dante Arigoni and Walter Bernasconi.
Gene was a lifelong Petaluma resident, attending local schools, local dances, and in later years participating in the Petaluma Veteran’s Day parade. In 1940 his family moved from Corona Road to their current ranch on Stony Point Road. The only time he was away from the family farm was while he served in the Korean War from 1952-1954; he then spent his remaining years committed to working on the ranch.
His greatest enjoyments were time spent with his big family, working outside on the ranch, feeding his animals, witching for water, gambling and going out to eat with good friends.
He was a member of ICF #150 and an active member in the parish at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cotati.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Gene’s caregivers who showed him so much love and attention.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 150 St. Joseph’s Way, Cotati. Visitation will be on Sunday March 10, 2024 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm at Parent Sorenson Mortuary, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Burial services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to be made to Sutter Care at Home-Santa Rosa Hospice or to the charity of your choice.
