Frederick A. Groverman, Dvm

Frederick A. Groverman, DVM, passed away peacefully in his Petaluma home on February 12, 2022, at the age of 88 years.  Husband of Lynge Simoni Groverman of Petaluma and the late Patricia Groverman.  Father of Karen Vietheer (Jim), James Groverman (Cindy), Judy Walker (Drew Dominguez) and William Groverman (Christina).  Grandfather of six.  Stepfather of Dineen Anderson (Chris Mehas), Kay Simoni, Laureen Simoni (Rob O’Brien), Rosileen Beran (Martin), Chester Simoni (Anna), and the late Paul Simoni.  Stepfather-in-law of Mary Simoni.  Step-grandfather of nine.  Brother of the late Elsa Day.  Survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Fred was born in Petaluma on December 30, 1933, to Ida (Petersen) and Bernard Groverman.  He attended Petaluma schools and received his and DVM from UC Davis in 1958.  Fred and Bill Kortum opened and operated Cotati Veterinary Hospital that same year and practiced together until 1965.  Very active in his community, he volunteered as a fireman for 37 years.  Always a shepherd, Fred has held office and been an activist and guiding light for many locally and nationally recognized health and agricultural organizations and services.  He was passionate about 4-H and served 26 years on the board as well as chaired the building committee for the 4-H Center in Rohnert Park.  Fred championed vigorously for and oversaw the construction of Petaluma Valley Hospital.  He was committed to livestock care and vetted every animal shown at the Sonoma County Fair.  Most recently, he worked as a veterinarian/consultant in charge for Molecular Matrix, Inc., in stem cell research.  Fred’s passions, achievements, and accolades were many.  He loved and supported Petaluma, and in return, Petaluma has loved and supported him.  Fred was a wonderful and generous man; he will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Visitation on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 12:00 noon followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Green Barn at the Petaluma Fairgrounds, 175 Fairgrounds Dr., Petaluma.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fred’s memory to Friends of the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, 175 Fairgrounds Dr., Petaluma, CA 94952 or savepetalumafairgrounds.org.  Private Interment: Cypress Hill Memorial Park, Petaluma.
