Mary Kirby

Mary Kirby - Passed away peacefully on July 24, 2008 at the age of 84 years. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Floyd Kirby; her daughter, Janet Filippini and Gary of Penngrove, and son, Alan Kirby and Marie of Petaluma; her loving grandchildren, Lorrie Vella and Peter of Petaluma, Christopher Kirby and Melissa of Petaluma, David Filippini and Yatzin of Berkeley, and Lisa Filippini of Penngrove; her cherished great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kylie, Joseph, and Kellie Vella, and Andrew Kirby, all of Petaluma; her late brother, Derrick Childs and Joan, and brother, John Childs and Christine, all of England; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Mary was born in Toddington, England and met Floyd during World War II while he was stationed in the U.S. Army Air Force near her hometown of Luton. After their marriage in Luton, Mary and Floyd moved to Petaluma where they have lived happily for 63 years. Mary worked as a laboratory technician for the California Veterinary Lab Services in Petaluma for 25 years. She was a dedicated member of the Petaluma United Methodist Church, and enjoyed being a part of the United Methodist Women, Friendly Folk, and Quilting Group. Mary loved to play cards with her family and friends and greatly enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping. She loved to take rides with Floyd to the coast, where they would visit Bodega Bay, Point Reyes, Marshall, and other favorite places. Most importantly, Mary cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will always be remembered for her sincere presence and the unconditional love she gave to those in her life. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in celebration of Maryâ??s life on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Petaluma United Methodist Church, 410 D Street, Petaluma, CA 94952.
