Michael Richard Glose

Michael Richard Glose, age 84, of Petaluma passed away on September 12, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born on August 2, 1939 to parents Richard and Esther Glose in Brant, New York. 

He moved to California with his family prior to his senior year in high school. Upon graduating from Pomona High School he went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree and teaching credential at San Jose State University. He later earned his Master’s degree in School Administration from San Francisco State University. He taught 4th and 5th grades for 37 years in the Dixie School District (now Miller Creek School District). Early in his teaching career, Mike also served in the Air Force Reserves as a flight medic.  Mike loved to teach and touched the lives of hundreds of children during his career. He retired from teaching in 1999.

Mike had two daughters, Carrie Issel (Scott) and Sharon Glose from his first marriage. He then met Kate (Ellis) and they married in 1973. Mike and Kate had two daughters, Maggie Andalib (Simon) and Laura Gidney (Brian). Mike and Kate would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in December of this year. 

Mike had a deep and unwavering faith. This faith drew him to First Presbyterian Church in Petaluma where he was a dedicated member, enthusiastic volunteer, and friend to all. 

In his spare time, Mike pursued many other interests. He became a private pilot soon after he started teaching. Flying was one of his biggest passions. He shared his love of flying generously by taking countless people on scenic flights around the Bay Area. He was active in the Petaluma Area Pilots Association (PAPA). In his retirement he managed the Petaluma Municipal Airport for 6 years. It was the perfect retirement job for a pilot and lover of aviation. He was also a member of the Petaluma Kiwanis Club and the Petalumans of Yesteryear. Mike was a part of the local HAM radio network which supported the Emergency Response team.

Mike was preceded in death by his brother Richard Glose. He is survived by his sister Judy See (Ben) and brother Jim Glose. He is also survived by his wife, Kate, four previously named daughters and eight grandchildren who loved him dearly: Carrie’s children, Ashlyn, Eryn and Kevin; Maggie’s and Simon’s children, Charlotte, Eleanor, Sebastian and Miles; and Laura’s and Brian’s daughter, Anne. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Petaluma at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 10, 2023. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in memory of Mike to:
