Sharon was born December 27, 1939 and died April 21, 2023 after a brief illness. Sharon leaves behind 3 children: Deena Black of Santa Rosa, Mark W. Carey and Brett Carey of Humboldt County; 5 grandchildren: Matt and Laura Christensen, Elizabeth Leon and Mark F.L. Carey and Heidi Carey; 4 great grandchildren; Ava and Jackson (Heidi’s children) and George Markus and Valen (Elizabeth’s children). Sharon is survived by her sister, Jan (Ed) Marberry of Bakersfield, step-brother, Robert (Barbara) Snider of Colorado, her best friend, Eloise Cottrell of Eureka and many nieces and nephews.
Sharon attended high school in Crescent City, CA her freshman and sophomore years and Arcata, CA her junior and senior years, graduating in 1958. She earned a real estate license in 1988, which was helpful in her career as a paralegal.
Sharon was predeceased by her mother and step-father, Minnie and Ray Snider; her father, Clyde Thornton; brothers, Clyde E. Thornton and Richard Thornton; and her beloved friend and employer of 40 years, attorney Art Lafranchi.
Sharon was a top bowler for many years in both Humboldt and Sonoma Counties, and was very proficient in arts and crafts.
