Tom passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5th surrounded by family and friends after a courageous 13-year battle with prostate cancer. Tom had an idyllic childhood growing up on his family’s ranch in Point Reyes with his two brothers Fred and Ed. Upon graduation from Tomales High School, he attended trade school in Denver. Tom later went on to become an auto mechanic in Petaluma for more than 40 years. Tom believed his greatest accomplishment and blessing was the life he created with his wife Debbie, whom he met in 1981. Tom was especially proud of his two sons Brian and Mark and their wives Karin and Alina. He was beloved Nono to grandchildren Vivian, Dino and Amelia. Tom was an active member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Nicasio Druids, Sonoma-Marin Swiss Club and the LaFranchi Deer Club. Tom’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, spending time at the lake and enjoying the sports and activities that kept his sons and grandchildren busy.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Evelyn Gilardi, and his mother-in-law Lillian Riewerts. He is survived by his wife Debbie Gilardi, his son Brian (Karin) along with grandchildren Vivian, Dino and Amelia Gilardi, and son Mark (Alina) Gilardi. He is also survived by is two brothers Fred (Georgia) Gilardi and Ed (Pat) Gilardi, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Wednesday January 17, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Thursday January 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Petaluma Future Farmers of America Agriculture Boosters, Hospice of Petaluma, or your favorite charity.
