Vernon Clark Hansen of Petaluma, CA passed away peacefully from cardiac arrest on February 21, 2023. Vern was preceded in death by his parents Clark and Evelyn Hansen, sister Beverly Deniz and her husband Earnest Deniz. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy, daughter Shay Ribeiro (Mark Ribeiro), son Chad (Tammy Buza), and granddaughters Lucia and Mila Ribeiro. In addition, Vern has many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins who were dear to him.
Vern was born on April 29, 1946, in Petaluma. He graduated in 1964 from Petaluma High School where he wrestled and played baseball. Wanting to stay close to his family, Vern attended Sonoma State University and was part of the first graduating class at SSU. His drive and dedication to making positive changes in his community started in college as he was president of the student body. Vern began a very successful and impactful career in real estate, starting at Golden Land Realty. Over the years, he worked with many real estate companies, including a partnership with Westgate Realty. He went on to become a member of the California Association of Realtors, where he chaired multiple committees for several years. Vern was the President of the Sonoma County Board of Realtors in 1988, Realtor of the Year in 1991, and in 2013, he was awarded the prestigious honor of Director for Life by the California Association of Realtors. Vern retired from real estate in April 2022.
In his spare time, you would catch Vern fishing, taking his fifth wheel across the country or up at the Petaluma Golf and Country Club golfing or poolside. He was passionate about his family, being a loving husband and father and, most dear to him, being Papa to his two granddaughters.
The Rosary will be held on Monday, March 6th, 6 pm at Parent-Sorensen in Petaluma. Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 7th, 11 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Petaluma with the reception immediately following at Petaluma Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers the family requests a memorial contribution be made to St. Jude for children.
